Skates, as with shoes, can vary in size and fit from one Manufacturer to another. It is important that you check out the size charts when ordering your new skates, especially if you are changing brands from your previous skates. You can also message/call us for guidance,
In the skate description it will list if it is in Men or Ladies sizing. Typically, if in Men you would size down one size for Ladies.
Bont Boots are the biggest exception to the rule. It is possible in a Bont that you will take a size that is 2-3 sizes smaller than your American shoe size. For example, a size 8 ladies shoe could be a size 5 in a Bont.
You can follow the simple steps below to properly measure your feet or if you live close to the Tampa Bay area you can stop by SCSS and we would be happy to confirm your size and place your order.
- Stand on a sheet of paper and slightly bend your knee so your foot is pressing down on the paper
- Trace your foot (or have someone else trace it for you) making sure you are holding the pen straight up and down and not angled in or out for a true tracing. Do this on both feet.
- Measure the distance from the back of your heel to the end of the longest toe (might not be your big toe). Measure both feet as it is common for people to be two different measurements. You need to measure to the closest 1/8" to be accurate as 1/4' difference can change the size of your skate.
- In store, for children with growing feet we normally go up one size to give a little bit of growth room without hindering their skating. If you are in between sizes you would normally size up so that your toes are not already bumping against the front of the boot which can cause toenail issues.
- If you know that you have wider feet you can measure the width by measuring around the widest part of the ball of your foot. You can use that measurement to check width on the brands that do offer wider widths.
- If you have had a foot/ankle injury or feel you have uniquely shaped feet (bunions, etc), you can always send us a picture of your feet. We have done this for so long that we are really good at suggesting which boots will be better suited for not only your foot shape but your desired skating style. You can place the order and put in the notes that you would like to speak with someone about your sizing.
- Because we want to help you make sure we get this right the first time we will give you a courtesy call after you place your order to confirm your sizing and answer any questions you might have about your order.
